That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

The Commodore is a dog-friendly pub in Southbourne, Bournemouth, where dogs are welcome inside in designated pub and bar areas. Set on Southbourne Overcliffe Drive above the seafront, it is a handy stop for anyone heading back from the promenade, Fisherman’s Walk or a longer outing towards Hengistbury Head.

It is a Greene King pub with food, drinks, family-friendly facilities and a beer garden, so it works well as a practical regrouping point after sand, sea air and the usual lead-around-chair-leg negotiations. It is a little way out from Bournemouth town centre, but that clifftop position makes more sense for beach-going dog owners than a central stop.

On-site parking is confirmed, which removes one small layer of coastal faff. For dog walks nearby, there are year-round dog-friendly beach sections east of Fisherman’s Walk towards Southbourne and at Hengistbury Head, while Southbourne Beach itself has seasonal dog restrictions from 1 May to 30 September.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome inside in designated dog-friendly pub and bar areas, at the manager’s discretion. They should stay on leads in both the indoor and outdoor seating areas and off the furniture, which is fair enough for everyone involved.
