Hartland Abbey is a grand historic house and estate near Bude, set in beautiful gardens and grounds with access to coastal beachwalks. Dogs are welcome on leads throughout the gardens, grounds and beachwalks, making it a satisfying day out for owners who don't mind the house itself being off-limits to ordinary pet dogs. The estate also features exhibitions, a gift shop and a tearoom, though your dog can only join you in the outdoor areas.

Open Sundays to Thursdays from late March to early October, the grounds and gardens are accessible from 11am to 5pm, with the house open from 2pm to 5pm for those travelling without their dog or happy to take turns. The large car park sits adjacent to the house, with gates closing at half past five.

It's a substantial attraction well worth the short drive from Bude, especially if you're after a proper stretch of the legs combined with a bit of history and scenery. Keep leads on throughout and save the house tour for another visit if you'd rather keep everyone together.
