Access for all has been improved in West Blean & Thornden Wood Nature Reserve by the installation of a new all access trail, suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. The circular trail is 1.1 miles (1.8 km) in length and winds through different woodland habitats, including pine plantation, traditional coppice with standards and recently cleared areas. The conservation work will encourage the regeneration of the natural woodland and conserve native and rare species.

The Blean Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, is working on plans to create an art and sensory trail along this path, incorporating some of the wood’s fascinating historical features, featuring ancient woodland techniques and skills and highlighting some of the varied species that can be found in the Blean woodlands.

The Wildart Trail, in Thornden Wood, will be a community project, involving local schools and groups and providing training and workshops in traditional skills. The end product should be an interesting, exciting, interactive trail for all to enjoy on this beautiful, ancient woodland site.

The site can be found between Canterbury and Herne Bay, just north of Tyler Hill.
