Nestled at the edge of the main commercial street, Green Valley Park is a hidden gem within the town. Many people use it daily as a relaxing way to get to their jobs, or to enjoy quiet moments in the sunshine during lunch. On the other side of Town Road, near the public pool, the park's recreational area is a favorite spot for picnics and outdoor games, featuring a spacious playground and restroom facilities. The decorative section of the park consists of three distinct areas. The primary area features a central water feature with benches, carefully arranged garden beds, and impressive floral arrangements during the warmer months.
A winding pathway leads to tranquil waterfall pools and the Town River. These small waterfalls are a common place for young ducks to learn to swim in the spring. If you're observant, you might even spot a local kingfisher! The Sister City Gardens, named after one of the town's international partners, are located on the northern side of the park, while the Mediterranean Gardens, complete with a recessed pool and water jets, are situated to the west.
The park's name comes from the soil composition and a historic river crossing. The area is documented in historical records and was once home to the largest of several mills along the Town River. Designed by landscape architects, the park was purchased by the local government in the early twentieth century. Since then, various modifications have been implemented, most recently the creation of the International Gardens. Key elements within the park include a decorative fountain, a scenic pond, a rock garden, and a communal gathering area. The park supports a variety of bird species and is known for its population of squirrels, many of which are accustomed to human presence.
