Step into history at The Castle Oxford, a charming establishment steeped in tradition and Victorian allure. Dating back to 1892, this iconic pub stands as a testament to Oxford's rich heritage, boasting a lineage almost as venerable as the renowned Hook Norton Brewery itself, which was founded in 1849. Originally constructed to designs by HGW Drinkwater, the pub exudes a distinctive mock-Tudor style with its towering red brick chimney stacks, while its interior showcases the elegant architecture typical of the Victorian era.
Over the years, The Castle Oxford has witnessed numerous transformations, bearing different names and ownerships. However, in 2017, when Hook Norton Brewery assumed stewardship of this historic establishment, it was christened 'The Castle' once more, honouring its traditional appellation as 'The Castle Tavern'. This move marked a poignant moment in the pub's journey, as it embraced its roots and embarked on a new chapter under the esteemed brewery's care.
