The National Trust's visitor centre at the edge of the sea in Robin Hood's Bay village will help you discover what makes this part of the Yorkshire Coast so special.

Explore the area’s distinctive geology, the impact of the elements and climate change on the coast, local wildlife and the secret history of smuggling. Learn about the work National Trust rangers are doing or find out more about other places to visit nearby.

The ground-floor café serves hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, pasties and sausage rolls, ice-cream and a selection of cakes and bakes. And you’ll find a collection of second-hand books for sale.

When you enjoy a drink or snack from the café, or buy a second-hand book, your money stays locally, contributing to the upkeep of the Old Coastguard Station and the beautiful coastline surrounding it.

Free entry. Open 7 days a week: March – October 10:00 – 4:00; October – March 10:30 – 3:30. Limited opening over the Christmas period, see website for details.

Steps to entrance, portable ramp available. Ground floor fully accessible. Accessible lift available to first floor.

Borrow a Tracker Pack from the Old Coastguard Station at Robin Hood's Bay on your way down to the beach. These rucksacks are free-to-hire and are full of useful information and guides on fossil hunting, bird watching and rock-pooling. Games and ideas are included in the activity leaflet, which when completed is yours to keep. You can borrow the Tracker Pack all day or for a couple of hours, depending on your plans. Just drop it back off at the centre when you’re done and don’t forget to share with the centre staff the fascinating things you have discovered!

Dogs on short leads welcome in visitor centres. Please keep dogs on a short lead around livestock and be aware of cliff edges
