Paws-itively Perfect: Stratford-upon-Avon for You and Your Pooch!

Screenshot 2025-06-21 at 15.47.26.png

So, you're thinking of whisking your four-legged friend away for a jolly good holiday? Look no further than Stratford-upon-Avon! This isn't just a town for Shakespeare buffs (though, let's be honest, it's pretty amazing for them too); it's a brilliant destination for dog owners looking for a bit of history, a lot of green space, and a generally tail-wagging good time.

A Bit of Bark-Ground (History, that is!)

Stratford's been around for a long time. While we can't say for sure if Shakespeare himself was a dog lover, we can imagine him strolling along the River Avon with a trusty hound by his side (maybe a mischievous terrier with a penchant for digging up iambic pentameter?).

And, while the Tudor period might not have been known for its dog-friendly policies, the fact that Stratford has survived and thrived for centuries means it's got plenty of space for modern-day pooches to roam! (Even if they can't actually roam through time...yet.)

Why Stratford is Paw-some for Dog Holidays:
  • Green Spaces Galore: Stratford is bursting with parks and riverside walks. Imagine throwing a frisbee for Fido in a picturesque meadow or letting him sniff out all the interesting smells along the Avon.

  • Dog-Friendly Pubs & Cafes: Many pubs and cafes welcome well-behaved dogs, often with water bowls and maybe even a sneaky treat or two. (We've phoned ahead to check each venue so you don't have to)

  • A Relaxing Atmosphere: Stratford is a relatively calm and peaceful town, perfect for dogs who might get overwhelmed by busier city environments.

  • Historical Walks: Explore the town's charming streets and historical sites with your dog by your side. (Although, remember to keep them on a lead near busy areas!)

  • River Avon Walks: The best walk has to be along the River Avon, great for dogs of all sizes.

Modern Day Doggy Delights

Stratford isn't stuck in the past; it's a vibrant town with plenty to offer both humans and their canine companions today.

  • Dog-Friendly Accommodation: A growing number of hotels and B&Bs are rolling out the red carpet for furry guests. (Check when booking.)

  • Local Shops: Many shops welcome well behaved dogs.

  • Messing about on the River:  Grab yourself an electric powered boat for you and your dog and take in the riverside scenery along the River Avon.

Get Out and Explore!

So, pack your bags, grab your lead, and head to Stratford-upon-Avon for a dog-friendly adventure you won't forget. There is also a full map of dog friendly destinations for further exploration! It's a town where history and hounds can happily coexist, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
