Hawes is a small but lively market town in the heart of Upper Wensleydale, surrounded by the rolling fells and stone-walled countryside of the Yorkshire Dales. The compact centre is easy to explore on foot, with cobbled lanes, independent shops and the famous Wensleydale Creamery giving the town plenty of character despite its size. Walks lead out almost immediately into the surrounding countryside, including routes alongside Gayle Beck and towards nearby waterfalls and open fell country. The White Hart Inn welcomes dogs inside both the bar and part of the restaurant, so everyone can sit down together after a Wensleydale walk. Water bowls and treats are available in the bar, and on-site parking saves wrestling the lead through market-day streets.

Caffè Curva welcomes dogs inside the café and shop area, making it an easy central refuelling stop on Market Place. Staff offer water and treats to visiting dogs, and you can browse, settle in with coffee and cake and keep your four-footer with you throughout.

Richmond Castle offers outdoor history with your dog on a lead throughout the grounds, including the main Ward and outer areas. The 12th-century keep and walls make a proper day-out attraction around 24 miles from Hawes, with a dog bowl by the entrance.
