Planning a day in Looe with your dog should feel easy once you know where to head.  These are our top dog-friendly picks in Looe, where dogs are welcome inside and you can move from harbour wandering to warm stops without overthinking it.  Expect cosy pubs, easy café resets and a seaside day that flows naturally.

🍻 Pubs & Bars
Proper sit-down spots where sea air turns into a long, comfortable pause.
Looe is prime for a harbour stroll followed by a pub where dogs are welcome inside and the sea air turns everyone into snack goblins.  Look for cosy, friendly spots where sandy paws are treated as normal and settling in feels effortless.

Cafés & Restaurants
Easy, reliable stops for coffee, cake and longer pauses between coastal wanders.
Perfect for warming up after a beach loop or coast-path stretch, with indoor-welcome spots that keep things simple when the weather shifts.  Ideal for slow lunches, good views and a dog snoozing under the table.

🌿 Wild Card
Something that adds a bit of history to the day — with a dog-friendly reality check.
Old Guildhall Museum & Gaol → A small, characterful stop in the heart of Looe, but dogs aren’t allowed inside the building.  Best enjoyed as part of a wander through the town before heading somewhere warm where dogs are welcome inside.

Are dogs allowed on the beach in Looe?

Dogs are not allowed on East Looe Beach, which is the main sandy beach beside the town and seafront. For dog owners, the better option is Hannafore Beach in West Looe, where dogs are allowed all year round.

Hannafore is especially useful because it gives you sea views, rock pools at low tide and a good coastal walk without having to leave Looe. It is less “bucket-and-spade central” than East Looe Beach, but much better for dogs.

So the simple version is: East Looe Beach is not the dog beach; Hannafore is your best Looe dog-friendly beach bet.

Is Looe a good place for a dog-friendly seaside day out?

Yes. Looe works really well for a dog-friendly day out because it has harbour wandering, coastal views, independent cafés, pubs and easy access to West Looe and Hannafore.

The town is compact, so you can build the day around a simple rhythm: harbour stroll, coffee stop, wander over the bridge, Hannafore beach walk, then somewhere dog-friendly indoors for lunch.

It is a busy little Cornish fishing town, so summer can feel crowded, especially around East Looe and the harbour. But for dog owners, West Looe and Hannafore often give the day a calmer shape, with more breathing room and fewer “please don’t lick that pasty bag” emergencies.

Is Looe worth visiting with a dog on a rainy day?

Yes, but it works best as a slower pottering day rather than a big beach day.

Looe has plenty of compact-town charm for damp-weather wandering, with harbour views, narrow streets, cafés and pubs close together. You can do short bursts outside, then tuck into indoor dog-friendly stops when the rain starts throwing tiny Cornish tantrums.

Hannafore is still useful in wet weather for a shorter sea-air walk, especially if you want somewhere less busy than the main town. The key is not to overplan it: quick harbour wander, coffee, little browse, lunch, another walk if the sky behaves.

Is Looe easy to walk around with a dog?

Mostly yes, but expect narrow streets, hills and busy summer crowds.

East Looe, the harbour and the bridge area are compact and easy to explore on foot, but parts of Looe are steep, especially as you move up from the centre or around West Looe and Hannafore. The town is charming rather than spacious, so nervous dogs may find peak-season crowds a bit much.

For an easier dog-friendly route, start around the harbour, cross into West Looe, then head towards Hannafore for more open coastal walking. That gives you the best of Looe without making the whole day feel like a lead-tangle obstacle course.

Where is the best place to park in Looe with a dog?

Millpool Car Park in West Looe is usually the best all-round option for visitors with dogs. It is the main long-stay car park, has nearly 1,000 spaces, and is around a five-minute walk from the town centre.

It also puts you on the West Looe side, which is handy if you want to head towards Hannafore Beach rather than focusing only on East Looe. During summer, Looe gets busy and central parking can fill early, so arriving earlier makes the day much easier.

Once parked, Looe is best explored on foot. Let the car rest. Let the dog begin the harbour inspection committee.
