Short on time? Start with these three Minehead favourites: a harbour-side pub, a lively seafront cafe and a pony centre.

The Old Ship Aground is a harbour-side pub where dogs are welcome inside while you eat and drink. It sits just off the seafront, a two-minute stroll from the town centre and the South West Coast Path, making it a practical stop for coast-path walkers.

Jubilee Cafe and Crazy Golf welcomes dogs inside for food and drinks, so there's no need to compromise with pavement tables. Your dog gets their own menu, doggie ice cream and a loyalty card. It's beside the beach and railway station.

Exmoor Pony Centre welcomes well-behaved dogs on leads into the grounds, yard, paddocks and visitor areas. Admission is free with on-site parking. It's open Wednesday to Sunday from 12 to 4 between late March and early November.

Selworthy, Allerford and National Trust Lanes

3–5 hours · Best for national trust villages and quieter exmoor routes

Drive the A39 west to Selworthy village and walk the green paths and wooded combes on the Holnicote Estate, then stop at Periwinkle Tea Rooms for homemade cakes with your dog inside or in the garden. Continue to Allerford for the packhorse bridge and museum garden visit, then refuel at Allerford Tea Room before returning toward Minehead via the scenic estate lanes.
