That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Abbey Steps Tearoom is a handy little Whitby stop right by the famous 199 Steps, making it ideal for a post-climb coffee, breakfast, or something warm after a harbour wander. It has that “just one quick stop” energy that somehow turns into lingering over cake while the dog settles under the table like they pay council tax here. Expect a cosy, casual feel with a location that works brilliantly for Abbey-bound exploring, old town mooching, and people-watching with paws involved. A very convenient choice when the dog is with you and nobody wants the faff of splitting up for refreshments.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome inside, making this a handy Whitby stop when nobody wants to split up for breakfast, coffee, or cake after tackling the 199 Steps. Keep dogs close by, settled under the table, and out of the aisle during busy spells.
