Acorn Bank is a National Trust garden and estate near Temple Sowerby in Cumbria, offering woodland walks, historic herb and fruit gardens, estate paths and a watermill to explore. Dogs are welcome on leads throughout the woodlands and estate, and the café and café courtyard are dog-friendly too — so four paws can join in right up to the post-walk sit-down. The formal walled gardens are the one area off-limits to dogs, but there is plenty of ground to cover.

The site works well for a half-day or full-day visit, with on-site parking and a café open until 3:30pm. The estate opens Thursday to Monday from 10:30am to 5pm during the season (mid-March to early November), closed Tuesday and Wednesday. Assistance dogs are welcome in all areas including the walled gardens.

The mix of woodland, estate paths and dog-friendly café makes it easy to keep everyone together, and the lead-only rule keeps things predictable for dogs who enjoy a good nose-led wander through the trees.

Dog Policy:

Dogs on leads are welcome throughout the woodlands and estate, and can come inside the café and café courtyard too — so nobody has to do the pavement-waiting shuffle after the walk. The formal walled gardens are the one no-dogs zone; assistance dogs are welcome everywhere.
