Allan Bank and Grasmere

Allan Bank sits just outside Grasmere village, about twelve miles south of Keswick and it is one of the more relaxed National Trust houses for dog owners. The house has exhibitions and period rooms, the wooded pleasure grounds offer a short woodland circuit and there are picnic areas dotted around the estate.

Parking is the one logistical catch: there is no onsite parking apart from a single Blue Badge space, so most visitors use the public pay-and-display car parks in Grasmere village and walk up. Dogs need to stay on leads from the bottom of the driveway to protect wildlife and sheep and the National Trust page lists current opening times and admission details.

The Grasmere setting means this fits neatly into a Lakes day out, especially if you are heading down the A591 corridor. Indoor access to downstairs rooms plus full garden access keeps the whole group together even when the weather turns theatrical and the lead-and-bag logistics are straightforward enough to make planning less stressful.
