That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Aln Valley Railway, Shop and Tearoom is a free-entry heritage railway attraction near Alnwick, Northumberland, with a big mission: reconnecting Alnwick and Alnmouth by rail. Climb aboard a steam train, take the miniature ride-on railway for a spin, and let the kids unleash their energy in the outdoor play area (dogs will supervise, obviously). When you’re ready to refuel, the Buffet Stop Tea Room does sandwiches, cakes, snacks and hot drinks with indoor and outdoor seating, and Lionheart Station has a shop packed with gifts, souvenirs, tickets and an Information Trail leaflet with a family-friendly quiz. It’s the kind of place that starts as “just a quick look” and ends with crumbs in your pockets and a dog who’s made three new best friends.
Good to know:
Water bowls available
Treats available
Doggy Menu available
Dog Policy:
Well-behaved dogs are usually welcome on the train but must be kept off seats. Some compartments are dog-free and clearly marked. One dog per adult. Dogs may be restricted on special event days (e.g. Santa Specials), except assistance dogs.
