Ardchattan Priory

Ardchattan Priory stands on the shores of Loch Etive, a short drive from Oban. Managed by Historic Environment Scotland, the ruined priory dates back to the thirteenth century and features a collection of beautifully carved sculptured stones set within a historic landscape. It's free to visit and open year-round, making it an easy addition to a heritage day out with your dog.

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas of the priory grounds, where you can wander among the stone ruins and explore the setting at your own pace. The site is outdoors only, so it works well for dogs who enjoy a calm stretch of the legs in a place with real history underfoot. There's no rush and no entry fee, so you can linger as long as the sniff schedule allows.

Opening hours are 9:30am to 5:30pm daily from April to September and 10am to 4pm from October to March. It's a peaceful spot for a historical interlude when you're exploring the wider Oban area with a lead and a sense of curiosity.
