That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Ashby de la Zouch Castle is one of those places where a simple wander turns into a bit of an adventure, with towering ruins, hidden corners and just enough “what’s through there?” energy to keep both humans and dogs interested. Set right in the heart of the town, it’s an easy add-on to a day out rather than a full logistical mission.

You can climb the remains of the Great Tower for wide views, explore underground passageways from the Civil War era, and loop around the gardens and open grounds at your own pace. It’s got that slightly wild, half-ruined feel that makes it more explore-than-observe.

It works well as a relaxed roam rather than a structured visit — something to pair with a town mooch or a longer walk nearby, with plenty of space for a good sniff and a slower kind of day.

Good to know:

Dog Policy:

Dogs on leads are welcome across the site. A great option for a relaxed wander where the dog can explore alongside you the whole way round.
