Badbury Rings is an Iron Age hillfort and protected National Trust landscape near Wimborne, open from dawn to dusk and welcoming dogs across the hillfort and surrounding paths. This is a proper heritage day-out rather than a standard park walk, with dramatic earthwork ramparts, ancient woodland and wide open space for a good leg-stretch. There is a large pay-and-display car park on site, free for National Trust members.

Between late February and August, dogs must be kept on a lead to protect ground-nesting birds including skylarks. Leads are also required whenever livestock are grazing. Outside nesting season and when fields are stock-free, dogs can enjoy more freedom across the hillfort paths and grassland. There are no toilets on site, so plan accordingly.

A brilliant spot for dogs who like a bit of hill work and owners who want history with their walk. The combination of open access, on-site parking and seasonal flexibility makes Badbury Rings a reliable choice for a morning adventure or an afternoon ramble with the dog in tow.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome across the hillfort and paths — leads on between late February and August for nesting season, and any time livestock are grazing. Outside those windows, there is plenty of room to roam.
