That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery is a friendly, volunteer-run museum in Alnwick, set inside a beautiful Grade II listed church. It tells the story of around 10,000 years of Alnwick’s history across two floors of permanent displays, with artefacts that take you from ancient times to the modern day.

Head up to the top-floor gallery for a changing programme of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. It’s the kind of place you can pop back to and always find something new, even if your dog’s main takeaway is “wow, so many stinky smells”.

Good to know:

Dog Policy:

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the permanent museum displays. The upstairs gallery can be dog-free at certain times or during specific exhibitions, such as school visits or when delicate exhibits are at floor level. If the gallery is off-limits, visitors are asked to take turns going upstairs, and if you’re alone with a small dog and it’s quiet, volunteers may be able to look after them briefly behind the front desk.
