Days Out Are For Dogs Too

Bamburgh Castle is one of those places that makes a dog-holiday day feel properly memorable. It sits high above the coastline, looking out over the dunes and sea, and it has that impressive presence that makes you pause even if you’ve already seen it in a hundred photos.
It’s a brilliant anchor for a day out because it naturally pairs with walking. You can do a beach stretch first while the dog is full of energy, then head up towards the village and the castle when you’re ready for something a bit more structured. Even just being around the grounds and soaking up the setting feels like a proper “we’re away” moment, with huge views that make the coast feel even bigger.
The castle also works well for mixed-energy days. Dogs often love Bamburgh because there’s so much to smell and see, but they can also get tired from the wind and stimulation. This is the kind of destination where you can pace yourselves, take breaks, and build a day that feels full without being frantic.
Whether you’re into history or not, Bamburgh Castle has that rare quality of making the whole day feel a bit more special. It’s iconic, atmospheric, and very Northumberland.
Dog Policy:
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the grounds and must be kept on a short lead and accompanied at all times. Dogs are also welcome in the Victorian Stables and Tack Room Takeaway areas. Dogs are not allowed inside the State Rooms (assistance dogs only inside).
