Baron's Haugh

Baron's Haugh is an RSPB nature reserve in Motherwell, a short drive from Glasgow, with four hides, two signposted circular trails and 40 on-site parking spaces. Dogs are welcome on the reserve under responsible access, making it a proper wildlife day out you can share with a curious lead-and-bag companion.

The trails are surfaced and easy to follow and the hides offer plenty of opportunity for birdwatching while your dog waits patiently at your feet. Access is open 24 hours every day, so you can plan early-morning or late-afternoon visits around quieter breeding-season windows.

Dogs must be kept close or on a short lead near livestock and during the ground-nesting bird season (1 April to 15 August) and they're not allowed in the wetlands or pools. It's a useful destination for dog owners who want more than a simple walk—combine wildlife watching with gentle exercise and enjoy a reserve that genuinely welcomes responsible dogs alongside the birds.
