Beamish Museum is a large open-air museum near Durham where historic streets, working transport and heritage buildings bring the past to life. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor areas and a defined set of indoor spaces including the Entrance Building, transport exhibits, the 1820s Waggonway, 1900s Colliery Yard (engine shed and lamp cabin), Rowley Station, the Sun Inn pub and some catering areas. The drift mine is off-limits and most indoor buildings remain restricted to assistance dogs only.
Your dog will need to stay on a short lead and under close control throughout the site. They can't be tethered to buildings, exhibits or fences and evening events are assistance dogs only.
On-site parking is available and the museum opens daily from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with last admission an hour before closing. It's a proper day out with plenty to explore and dogs can join you for much of the journey through the historic zones.
