Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens

Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens is a large English Heritage site near Morpeth in Northumberland, bringing together a 19th-century neoclassical hall, a medieval castle and thirty acres of gardens including a dramatic quarry garden. Dogs are welcome on short leads throughout the grounds, gardens and around the castle exterior, though they're not allowed inside the hall or castle buildings themselves.

The estate opens daily in summer and Wednesday to Sunday in winter, with a main visitor car park on site including fourteen accessible spaces. Water bowls and bins are provided for dogs, and the scale of the grounds means there's plenty to explore on lead while taking in the architecture, formal terraces and woodland paths. The Coach House Café near the castle and the Tearoom in the hall's original kitchen are both on site for human refreshments.

It's a strong choice for a Northumberland day out when you want heritage, green space and clear dog-friendly access rules in one ticket. The quarry garden walk between the hall and castle is particularly atmospheric, and the estate's mix of Greek Revival architecture and medieval history makes it one of the region's most distinctive heritage attractions.
