Bodiam Castle is a 14th-century moated castle near Rye where dogs on short leads are welcome in the grounds and outdoor food areas. It's a proper National Trust day out with a famous silhouette, medieval history and plenty of space to explore together, though the castle itself and shop are assistance dogs only. The grounds are generously dog-friendly: your dog can join you in the Wharf Tea-room and Castle View Café, both outdoor areas, so you can settle in for a break without a wet-nose wait in the car.

Short leads are required throughout, which keeps things calm around families and picnics. Open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with the car park unlocking at 09:45.

There's on-site parking, no need to book in advance for general visits and it's close enough to Rye to pair with a town wander or woodland walk. A solid choice when you want medieval atmosphere and a dog who can join most of the day.
