Bolton Abbey

Bolton Abbey is a historic estate in the Yorkshire Dales, set in the picturesque Wharfedale valley near Grassington. The grounds include the striking medieval priory ruins, woodland trails through Strid Wood and riverside paths that follow the River Wharfe. Dogs are welcome across the estate's public outdoor areas, making it a substantial day out for anyone whose plans revolve around a good walk and a bit of heritage.

The estate offers multiple walking routes, from gentle riverside strolls to longer trails such as the Priory Trail and Welly Walk. Dogs must be kept on a lead in Strid Wood and on the trail routes and they're not permitted on Barden Moor or Barden Fell. Assistance dogs are welcome in the gift shops.

Parking is straightforward, with official estate car parks at Bolton Abbey Village, Riverside, Strid and Barden Bridge. The estate is open daily from 9am to 5:30pm, with last admission at 5:30pm. It's the sort of place where you can easily spend half a day watching your dog conduct a full sniff audit of several centuries.
