Borrans Park

Borrans Park sits right by the northern shore of Windermere and is perfect for a gentle wander, a sit-down with a view, or letting your dog do that slow-motion shoreline sniff like it's a professional inspection. The open green space offers picnic spots and superb lake views, making it a relaxed dog-friendly day out in Ambleside.

It's also wonderfully historic. You're right by the remains of Ambleside Roman Fort, a 2nd-century fort built under Hadrian's rule as part of the Roman presence in Cumbria, with a Roman road leading towards the ruins. Basically, your dog is on a walk that doubles as a history lesson, and they still only care about sticks.

Dogs are welcome outdoors throughout the park, so it's an easy stop for lakeside sniffs, gentle exploring and keeping everyone happy between Windermere adventures.
