Borrowdale & Derwent Water

Borrowdale and Derwent Water is a National Trust outdoor destination on the edge of Keswick, giving dog owners managed Lake District access without the usual where-can-we-actually-go guesswork. Dogs are welcome all year across the outdoor areas, including waymarked trails, lakeshore paths, open spaces and car parks, so it works as a proper day out rather than a vague footpath gamble.

Great Wood car park sits 1.8 miles outside Keswick on the B5289, with pay-by-phone available and from there you can head into woodland trails or down to the lakeshore. The whole setup is designed for visitors, which means clearer routes, better signposting and fewer tangled-lead moments when you are trying to work out if you are trespassing or not.

Dogs need to stay on a short lead or under close control because of livestock and wildlife, but that is standard Lake District reality rather than a ban. It is a handy destination when you want proper outdoor time with the dog, decent parking and the reassurance that you are welcome, not winging it.
