Bradfield Woods National Nature Reserve

Bradfield Woods National Nature Reserve is one of England's most important ancient woodlands, a nationally significant site just outside Bury St Edmunds where centuries-old coppice management has shaped the landscape you walk through today. Dogs are welcome on a lead across the reserve's trails and woodland areas, making it a proper day out for anyone who wants more than a quick lap of the park. The reserve is open all year, with free entry and a free car park on site.

Trails wind through working coppice, alongside seasonal wildflowers and beneath canopy that changes dramatically with the seasons. There are toilets and a picnic area, so you can settle in for a few hours without needing to dash back to the car.

Seasonal sheep grazing means livestock may be present on certain trails, so keep an eye on signage and stick to the lead rule. It's a brilliant choice if you're after a purposeful walk with genuine ecological interest rather than a simple circuit.
