Bratton Camp and White Horse

Bratton Camp is an Iron Age hillfort crowned by the striking Westbury White Horse, a chalk figure cut into the steep escarpment near Westbury. The site offers dramatic views across the Salisbury Plain and beyond, with free access year-round during daylight hours and a large free car park adjacent to the hillfort. Dogs are welcome on lead throughout the open-air landscape.

Sheep graze regularly across the site, so leads are required at all times. The terrain includes steep slopes and uneven ground, making it a proper walk rather than a gentle stroll, but the combination of history, landscape and that iconic white horse makes it a rewarding day out. The hillfort ramparts and chalk horse are managed by English Heritage.

There are no visitor facilities on site, so bring water for you and your dog and be prepared for exposed conditions. It's a destination that rewards those who enjoy big skies, ancient earthworks and the sort of walk where the dog gets a proper sniff and you get a lungful of Wiltshire air.
