Burghley House

Burghley House is a grand 16th-century estate just outside Stamford, offering a proper day out with parkland walks, formal gardens, a historic house and café options. Dogs on leads are welcome in the expansive Parkland and Deer Park, where you and your four-paw can stretch your legs across open grassy spaces and woodland paths. The parkland opens daily from 7am, making it a brilliant early-morning destination before crowds arrive.

The House, Gardens of Surprises, Sculpture Garden, shops and Orangery Restaurant are all off-limits to ordinary pet dogs, though outdoor seating is available at the Garden Café. That still leaves plenty of ground to cover together and the estate's scale means you can easily spend a few hours enjoying the landscape without feeling shortchanged.

Free on-site parking makes arrival straightforward, with disabled bays and EV charging also available. The estate opens Monday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday from 10.30am to 4.30pm (closed Fridays), with seasonal variations and occasional event closures – check ahead if visiting during Burghley Horse Trials week in early September.
