That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Calke Abbey isn’t your polished country house day out. It’s deliberately a bit faded, a bit undone… and all the better for it.

Set in a huge stretch of parkland and woodland, this is one of those places where you start walking and just keep going. Wide open deer park, quiet tree-lined avenues, hidden corners, lakes, and enough trail options to turn “we’ll just have a wander” into a proper few hours out.

The house leans into its time-warp feel, but for dog days it’s all about the estate. Space, variety, and that easy rhythm of walk → sniff → wander → repeat. There are cafés and courtyard stops dotted in too, so you can pause, reset, and then head straight back out again.

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Treats available

Doggy Menu available

Dog Policy:

Dogs are very welcome and can roam the parkland off-lead under close control — think solid recall, always in sight, and not charging up to other visitors. In gardens, indoor areas and around facilities, they’ll need to be on a short lead, but they’re still included (with dog-friendly seating inside parts of the restaurant too).
