Carlton Marshes Nature Reserve is a large Suffolk Wildlife Trust site on the edge of Lowestoft, offering accessible trails, wildlife hides, a visitor centre, café and shop. It's a proper day-out destination for dog owners who want space, paths and a bit of wild without the car-park lottery. Dogs are welcome throughout the outdoor areas of the reserve, kept on a short lead at all times under the local Public Spaces Protection Order.
The reserve has well-marked paths and boardwalks that take you through reedbeds, wet meadows and grazing marsh, with benches and hides dotted along the way.
Dogs must stay on paths and follow the signage and the trust policy asks that you keep them out of water and away from sensitive wildlife areas. It's straightforward lead-and-bag territory, ideal for a sniff-paced morning or a proper stomp when everyone needs air and a reset.
Good to know:
Water bowls available
Free treats available

Dog Policy:
Dogs are welcome on the reserve and must be kept on a short lead at all times. Please stick to paths, follow on-site signage and keep dogs out of water and away from sensitive wildlife areas.
