Castle Acre Priory

Castle Acre Priory is a sprawling medieval ruin managed by English Heritage, set just outside the village of Castle Acre near King's Lynn. The Norman priory complex includes extensive roofless walls, a beautifully preserved prior's lodging, a herb garden and picnic areas, all framed by grassed courtyards and accessible paths. An exhibition and audio tour bring the monastic history to life and the scale of the ruins makes this a proper heritage day out.

Dogs on leads are welcome to explore the ruins and grounds with you. The outdoor areas are the main attraction here—long stretches of medieval stonework, plenty of sniff-worthy grass and enough space to wander without crowding. Paths are accessible but the ground can be uneven in places and the prior's lodging includes a spiral staircase.

The site is open daily from 10am to 5pm, with last entry at 4.30pm and advance booking is available online. Free parking is provided outside the site, with additional spaces in the village if needed.
