One of Scarborough's most charming little transport quirks, the Central Tramway is a historic cliff railway running between the seafront and the town above. Built in 1881, it's one of the oldest cliff tramways still operating in the UK and has been carrying visitors up the steep South Bay slope for more than 140 years.

The short ride is part transport, part seaside nostalgia, with the burgundy carriages gliding up and down between Foreshore Road and Marine Parade. It's the sort of experience that makes a Scarborough wander feel properly old-school, and very handy if your dog has already used up their daily quota of hills.

Dogs are very much welcome on board, with free travel for canine passengers and a water bowl waiting at the bottom station. It's an easy, thoughtful stop that makes exploring the town just that bit more dog-friendly. 🐾

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Treats available

Doggy Menu available

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome for the ride, making this a handy little Scarborough adventure without leaving anyone behind. Leads on, ears up, and very strong "best day ever" energy in a surprisingly tiny carriage.
