Christchurch Castle and Norman House is a free English Heritage site in Christchurch, a short distance from Bournemouth, where dogs on leads are welcome to explore the outdoor ruins at any reasonable time during daylight hours. The remains include a Norman motte and keep with a steep climb to the top, plus the rare Norman House building at ground level — one of the finest surviving examples of 12th-century domestic architecture in England.
The site is compact but atmospheric, with uneven surfaces and steep stairs as you work your way up the motte and around the keep. Dogs on leads are welcome across the outdoor areas and the base path, making it a straightforward stop for a bit of local history without the usual no-dogs restrictions. There is no indoor dog access during normal visits, so this is purely an outdoor wander.
Parking is available at a charged car park within three minutes of the site, though it is not managed by English Heritage. The location in the heart of Christchurch makes it easy to combine with a longer dog walk along the river or into the town centre.
Good to know:
Water bowls available
Free treats available

Dog Policy:
Dogs on leads are welcome to roam the outdoor areas, including the base path and the steep climb up to the Norman motte and keep. No indoor dog access during normal visits — but with ruins this good, the outside is the whole point.
