Clava Cairns

Clava Cairns is a prehistoric burial complex near Inverness, open all year round and easy to visit with your dog. The outdoor monument area includes Bronze Age ring cairns and standing stones, set in a peaceful Highland landscape close to Culloden.

Dogs are welcome to explore the open-air site with you and on-site parking makes it simple to turn up with a well-travelled terrier or a history-loving hound. There's no explicit dog policy published, so keep them close and under control around the ancient stones.

The cairns make a short, atmospheric stop between Culloden and Inverness and the compact layout means you can take in four thousand years of history without a marathon walk. It's an easy heritage outing when you want archaeology, fresh air and a dog who'll stand still long enough for a photo beside a standing stone.
