Cleeve Abbey

Cleeve Abbey is a remarkably complete medieval abbey near Minehead, managed by English Heritage. The substantial ruins include cloisters, a refectory, dormitory and exhibition spaces, plus family trails and outdoor interpretation that bring centuries of monastic life vividly into focus. It's a proper heritage day out with real architectural scale and historical depth.

Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds around the abbey buildings, on the outdoor paths and across the grassy areas, so they can join you for the full site circuit and soak up the atmosphere. The indoor abbey rooms and exhibition areas are for assistance dogs only, which keeps the visit straightforward if your priority is a wander through history with the dog at your side. Cleeve Abbey opens Wednesday to Sunday and bank holidays, 10am to 5pm.

Free parking is available on site, about 220 metres from the admission point. English Heritage admission applies and advance tickets can be booked online with a discount. It's a strong day-trip choice within the West Somerset heritage circuit.
