That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Tucked down one of Chester's cheeky side streets, Commonhall Street Social is a proper hidden gem built around bringing people together over good food and drinks in a big, laid-back communal space. Dogs are welcome inside and on the outdoor terrace, so nobody needs to do the pavement shuffle. It's set in a converted historic building that blends old character with a lively, social feel.

Inside, expect craft beers from independent breweries, cocktails, and a menu full of burgers, loaded fries, and sharing plates that lean into "order a bit of everything." Out back, there's a sun-trap terrace that becomes the place to be when the weather behaves — relaxed, a bit buzzy, and very easy to lose track of time in. Live music and events add to the spontaneous, no-bookings, just-turn-up vibe.

For dogs, this isn't a side note — they're properly part of the experience. You'll often see them stretched out under tables while their humans work through a pint (or two), and on Sundays they even get their own roast dinner moment. A brilliant spot for casual refuelling with paws and people together.
