Just outside the city centre, the Countess of Chester Country Park is one of those quiet success stories — a former landfill site transformed into a 19-hectare green space that now feels like it's always been there. Since opening in 2014, it's become a much-loved local spot, blending open space with nature and a surprising amount to explore. There's a real mix here — walking routes, pockets of wildlife, and thoughtful additions like sculptures, memorials, and art trails that give the park a bit more depth than your average green space.
Wildlife is a big part of the experience too. Keep an eye out and you might spot kingfishers, kestrels, or butterflies as you wander, especially around the quieter edges. It's peaceful without feeling empty, with a steady flow of walkers, locals, and regulars who clearly know what they've got here. There's also a strong community feel behind it, with a dedicated Friends group helping shape and maintain the park — something reflected in its consistent Green Flag status.
For dog owners, it's an easy, reliable choice. Plenty of space, varied paths, and enough interest to keep both of you engaged from start to finish.

Dog Policy:
Dogs are welcome throughout the park. Keep them under control and on a lead where appropriate, especially around wildlife and other visitors — the kingfishers probably appreciate the heads-up.
