Creake Abbey

Creake Abbey is a medieval ruin managed by English Heritage, tucked in the North Norfolk countryside just a short drive from Wells-next-the-Sea. The atmospheric remains of this 13th-century abbey sit in peaceful grounds where dogs on leads are welcome to explore alongside you. It's a compact heritage stop with grassed parking on the main drive, making it easy to stretch legs and sniff around without a big time commitment.

The site is an open-air ruin rather than an enclosed building, so the whole experience is outdoors with your dog at your side. It's an ideal break if you're touring the Holkham or Binham area and want a quick dose of history without leaving them in the car. The stonework and quiet setting make for a calm wander, even if the forecast looks changeable.

Dogs must stay on leads throughout and barbecues, smoking and naked flames aren't permitted. The abbey grounds are free to enter, though English Heritage membership applies as usual. Nearby North Creake has a café and shops if you need refreshments after your visit.
