Cromford Mills, near Bakewell, is a strong pick for a slower wander with substance, blending big industrial history with independent shops, cafés and waterside surroundings that soften the whole experience. The site sits within a UNESCO World Heritage landscape and today pairs restored mill buildings with a visitor centre, shopping and easy exploring around the canal and valley.

Dogs are welcome across the site, including outdoor areas and selected indoor spaces, so there's room to browse, pause and take in the history without the usual splitting-up shuffle. The mix of heritage, shopping and waterside paths makes it a flexible stop for a morning or afternoon out.

It's the kind of place where you can combine a bit of culture, a coffee stop and a canal-side sniff without needing to plan three separate trips or leave anyone on the pavement.

Good to know:

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome across the site, including outdoor areas and selected indoor spaces, so nobody needs to do the pavement-waiting shuffle while you browse the history and shops.
