Dalkeith Country Park is a large, managed estate near Edinburgh with waymarked trails, visitor facilities and plenty of space for a proper dog day out. Set on historic grounds, the park offers multiple walking routes and visitor amenities including food and shopping, all designed to work around a family trip—or a dog-focused one. Dogs are welcome across most of the park and on the waymarked trails.

Leads are required in car parks, the Restoration Yard courtyard, Palace Field until you cross Montagu Bridge and near livestock. Dogs must stay under control on trails at all times. Fort Douglas Adventure Park is the one area where dogs are not permitted.

This is a genuine spot for a half or full day with a dog, combining open grounds, managed paths and the kind of visitor infrastructure that means you're not choosing between comfort and exploration. Parking is available at the main King's Gate entrance, with additional vehicle access via Town Gate for larger vehicles.
