Downhill Forest

Downhill Forest is a compact managed woodland near Castlerock on the north coast, open daily from 8am until sunset. Dogs are welcome throughout the forest on two waymarked paths and the network of forest roads, making it a useful short woodland stop with easy access and on-site parking beside the forest entrance.

The forest features a small pond, heritage features and gentle trails that suit a quick leg-stretch or sniff-filled wander rather than a long hike. Access is pedestrian and cycling only and the official guidance asks visitors not to block the forest gates when parking.

Dogs should be kept on lead or under close control as general public-forest rules apply and any signage-restricted zones or areas closed during forestry operations must be respected. It's a straightforward, uncomplicated woodland visit with parking, waymarking and enough variety to keep both ends of the lead happy on a north-coast day out.
