Dunwich Heath and Beach

Dunwich Heath is a National Trust–managed coastal heathland reserve near Southwold where dogs are welcome year-round. The site combines heath trails, beach access and visitor facilities, making it straightforward for a proper day out with the dog. There's a large car park and blue badge parking available.

Dogs must be on lead from March to August on the heath and around buildings. The dedicated Woof Walk offers off-lead time when permitted. Outside nesting season (September to February), dogs can roam under close and effective control on the footpaths.

Beach off-lead access is available at certain times of year, so check the tide times and seasonal rules before you head down. The tea-room welcomes dogs at designated pawprint-labelled tables, which is useful for a break between walks. The heathland itself is clearly signposted and managed, so lead management and spotting the nesting season restrictions is straightforward enough for a confident dog day out.
