Dyfi Furnace

Dyfi Furnace is a restored 18th-century charcoal-fired blast furnace tucked beside the A487 near Machynlleth and dogs are welcome to join you around the monument and viewing areas. Managed by Cadw, the site offers free year-round access during daylight hours and tells the story of Wales' industrial heritage through its preserved waterwheel and sturdy stone ruins. The monument itself is closed internally, so your visit is an outdoor one, ideal for a quick heritage stop with the dog in tow.

There's a viewing platform where you can admire the wheel and read the interpretation panels and the whole site is compact enough to explore in fifteen minutes. Dogs should stay on the paths and because the monument sits close to a busy road, keep leads handy throughout. Parking is available in a Cadw car park opposite the monument—you'll need to cross the A487 to reach the site.

No booking is required and there's no admission charge. It's a handy detour if you're driving the coast road and fancy a dose of industrial archaeology without leaving the dog behind.
