Ebbor Gorge

Ebbor Gorge is a National Nature Reserve tucked into the Mendip Hills about three miles north-west of Wells, offering a proper outdoor day out with your dog. The dramatic gorge landscape takes in ancient woodland, limestone rocks, caves and streams, all threaded with paths that make for excellent exploring on lead. Dogs are welcome throughout the outdoor reserve, with leads required around wildlife to protect ground-nesting birds and other species.

The terrain is rugged and atmospheric, so it suits dogs who enjoy a bit of scrambling and sniffing through wilder countryside. Natural England manages a free on-site car park, which is locked at dusk, so plan your visit accordingly.

The reserve is open around the clock, giving you flexibility for early starts or avoiding the crowds. It's a National Trust Mendip Hills site close to Wookey Hole and the combination of gorge views, woodland cover and stream crossings makes it ideal for dogs who thrive on proper outdoor adventure rather than manicured park strolls.
