Glastonbury Abbey

Glastonbury Abbey is a vast historic abbey site with sweeping lawns, atmospheric ruins and beautiful gardens, all open to well-behaved dogs on leads in the outdoor grounds. Located on Magdalene Street in Glastonbury, about five miles from Wells, it offers a proper heritage day out where your dog can join you for the walk through centuries of history. Dogs are welcome throughout the abbey grounds on leads up to three metres, making it easy to explore the ruins and landscaped areas together.

You can also bring your dog into the Abbey Yard Café & Gift Shop while you're ordering, though they're not allowed to settle inside the café itself. Buildings and certain indoor spaces remain restricted and special events may have their own dog rules. The abbey is open daily from 10am to 6pm, with seasonal variations in winter months.

There's no dedicated visitor car park, so check local parking options or event-specific arrangements before you visit. It's a substantial outdoor heritage attraction with plenty of space for a good sniff and a dose of medieval Somerset.
