Glenfinnan Monument

Glenfinnan Monument marks one of the most stirring moments in Jacobite history, where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard in 1745. The monument sits in landscaped grounds on the shores of Loch Shiel, 18.5 miles west of Fort William on the A830. It's managed by the National Trust for Scotland and makes a proper Highland day out, with a visitor centre, shop, cafés and the option to climb the monument itself for those ticketed slots.

Dogs are welcome in the grounds on a lead, so you can wander the paths, read the story panels and soak up the loch views together. The monument climb and visitor centre are not accessible with ordinary pet dogs—only assistance Dogs are welcome inside—but the outdoor areas give you plenty to explore.

The grounds are open daily, with the visitor centre and shop running from 09:30 to 18:00 and monument climb slots at 11:00–12:30 and 13:30–16:00. Parking is available near the visitor centre and in the adjacent community car park; it gets busy, so stick to marked bays.
