Gloucester Cathedral is one of the city's biggest "wait, we can go inside?" moments for visitors with dogs. Set in the historic heart of Gloucester, this spectacular cathedral brings together over 1,300 years of history, soaring architecture, stained glass, peaceful cloisters and a proper sense of occasion.

It is especially handy if you are exploring Gloucester with a dog and want something more memorable than another wander round the streets. The medieval cloisters are a real highlight, and Harry Potter fans may recognise them from the films, while the wider cathedral gives you that rare mix of heritage, calm and indoor dog-friendly exploring.

The on-site café, The Monk's Kitchen, makes this a useful city-centre stop if you are planning a gentle Gloucester day out around the cathedral, shops and nearby streets. Dogs are welcome inside the Cathedral during visiting hours Monday to Saturday, so nobody has to do the awkward "you wait outside with the dog" shuffle.
