That’s our way of flagging the places that go further — beyond “dogs allowed”, with a genuinely warm welcome for dogs inside.

Grannies Tea Room & Delicatessen has been part of Alnwick life since the 1980s, starting as a couple of tables tucked into the shop before expanding into its intimate downstairs tea room in 1989. The basement space still shows off old-school features like coal chutes, worn steps, a fireplace and flagstone flooring, which adds to the “accidentally wandered into a delicious little time capsule” vibe.

Today it’s an established tearoom, shop and delicatessen in the busy town centre, with a big love for local produce across the deli, shop and menu. The “Old Curiosity Shop” style means there’s plenty to browse while you wait for your food, so it’s brilliant for anyone who likes their lunch with a side of nosiness.

Good to know:

Water bowls available

Treats available

Doggy Menu available

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome inside. Keep them well-behaved and close by, especially in the downstairs tea room where it can feel snug and tempting smells are working overtime.
