Great Orme Mines sits on the Great Orme headland near Llandudno in Conwy and is one of the most unusual dog-friendly days out in North Wales. Dogs are welcome on all areas of the site, including the underground tour through 3,500-year-old Bronze Age workings — making this a genuinely shared experience rather than a pavement-waiting situation.

The self-guided tour takes around 45 minutes and covers the visitor centre, a short introductory film, 200 metres of underground passageways leading to the ancient cavern, and a surface walk around the opencast mine and smelting shelter. The site opens daily from 09:30 with last entry at 16:30, running seasonally from mid-March to the end of October. Tickets can be bought online or on the day, and there is a visitor car park on site. A Coffee Cabin, gift shop and second-hand bookshop round out the visit.

The underground section involves metal grates and staircases that may not suit every dog, so it is worth thinking about your dog's confidence with those features before heading down. For dogs who take it in their stride, exploring 4,000-year-old copper workings together is a hard day out to top.

Dog Policy:

Dogs are welcome on all areas of the site, including the underground tunnels — leads on throughout. There are metal grates and staircases underground that some dogs find tricky, so give your dog a quick confidence assessment before you descend.
